KATHMANDU: Newly elected Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is set to take a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives (HoR) on Sunday.
The Constitution of Nepal mandates that a Prime Minister appointed with the support of two or more political parties must seek a vote of confidence within 30 days of their appointment.
The newly appointed PM is taking the trust vote as per Article 76(4) of the constitution.
On July 14, President Ram Chandra Paudel appointed Oli as the Prime Minister in accordance with Article 76(2) of the constitution.
With two of the largest parties, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, joining forces and other small parties also joining the government, PM Oli is likely to secure his vote of confidence.
So far, along with Nepali Congress and UML, Janamat Party, Ashok Rai-led JSP, Upendra Yadav-led JSP Nepal, Nagarik Unmukti Party, and Loktantrik Samajbadi Party are likely to support Oli’s trust motion.
Meanwhile, CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist), Rastriya Swatantra Party, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party will be standing against PM Oli’s trust motion.
