KATHMANDU: The main opposition party, Nepali Congress (NC), has accused Speaker Devraj Ghimire of acting as a rubber stamp for the ruling coalition.

NC General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma made the accusation after Speaker Ghimire facilitated Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s vote of confidence despite protests from opposition parties in the parliament.

“I did not see the Speaker in Parliament today. What I see is a dark image of the dignity of the post of Speaker being torn apart, reduced to a rubber stamp,” Sharma stated.
