Tokha Municipality takes action against illegal structures along Bishnumati river banks

KATHMANDU: In an effort to enhance the beauty and organization of the Bishnumati corridor, Tokha municipality has initiated the removal of illegally constructed structures along the river banks.

Chief Administrative Officer of the Municipality, Sher Bahadur BC, revealed that temporary structures encroaching upon public land along the Bishnumati river banks were cleared this morning using dozers.

Under the coordination of the chairperson of Tokha municipality-4, Dharmendra Shrestha, a ‘Public Land Preservation Committee’ was formed to oversee the removal of these illegal constructions.

Deputy Mayor Murari Tamang reported that structures in front of Fluorescent School at Tokha municipality-8 were among the first to be dismantled on Tuesday.

The municipality’s plan includes the clearance of unlawfully constructed structures along the Bishnumati corridor from Manorath Tirtha to Tokha police post in the initial phase.

Mayor Prakash Adhikari emphasized the municipality’s commitment to preserving over 1,000 ropanis of public land encroached upon in Tokha.

However, the removal process faced resistance from locals residing along the banks of the Bishnumati river near Fluorescent School.

The locals obstructed the municipality’s efforts and even threw stones at the police.

Several days prior, the municipality issued a notice urging locals to voluntarily dismantle illegal structures built on public land.
