YouTubers to be investigated in Durga Prasai’s arrest

KATHMANDU: Around a dozen YouTubers are expected to face investigation in connection with the arrest of controversial medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police is preparing to detain these YouTubers for their involvement in creating and spreading a fake video alleging that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli invested over NPR 32 billion in Cambodia.

On Monday, Prasai had hosted a YouTuber conference at his Bhaktapur residence, where he shared fake documents used as a basis for creating video content.

A CIB official stated that Prasai’s documents were confirmed to be fabricated, and investigations are underway against YouTubers who spread the false material.

“We have analyzed the videos made using these fake documents. Those who propagated the fabricated content will be brought under our investigation and face arrest,” the official said.

Meanwhile, the CIB is preparing to file charges against Prasai for cybercrime, document forgery, and defamation.

Prasai was arrested after it was found that he spread false allegations against Prime Minister Oli, also the chair of the CPN-UML, claiming NPR 32 billion investment in Cambodia’s telecommunications sector.

His viral Facebook video containing these claims was found to have inaccuracies, including errors in the PM’s name.

Following this, the CIB detained Prasai from his residence.
