KATHMANDU: Medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai has been arrested after publicly sharing controversial claims about Prime Minister KP Oli.

A team from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police apprehended him at his residence in Bhaktapur.

According to a CIB official, Prasai was arrested for investigation related to the dissemination of fake videos and documents concerning Prime Minister Oli.

He allegedly gathered several YouTubers to promote false information, asserting that Oli had invested billions in Cambodia.

On Monday, Prasai shared details on Facebook, claiming that PM Oli had made significant investments.

He also posted a video titled “KP Oli’s Investment in Cambodia: The Real Character of the Prime Minister.”

Anticipating his arrest, Prasai had indicated on social media that he might be taken into custody, stating, “Yesterday, as soon as I made public the issue of KP Oli’s investment in Cambodia through a press conference, this state government is preparing to arrest me again on false charges. I urge you to be alert and vigilant, even if I am arrested for cybercrime, treason, or any other allegations.”

Prasai, the owner of B&C Medical College in Jhapa, was previously arrested on charges of cybercrime and character assassination, and he was released on bail of one lakh rupees. Following his release, he became increasingly vocal against Oli.
