RSP stages demonstration in Kathmandu and Pokhara over Chairman Rabi’s arrest

KATHMANDU: Supporters and members of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) held demonstrations in Kathmandu and Pokhara in response to the arrest of their Chairman, Rabi Lamichhane.

The demonstration took place at Matighar in Kathmandu and in front of the District Police Office Kaski on Saturday.

Protesters gathered in Chipledhunga, Pokhara, at 11 am and at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu at 1 pm, rallying under the slogan “Solidarity Against Political Revenge.”

RSP leaders and activists participated in the demonstrations.

Chairman Lamichhane, who was brought to Pokhara last night, is currently in custody at the District Police Office Kaski.

Lamichhane was arrested by police on Friday at the RSP office in Banasthali and subsequently transported to Pokhara.

Since early Saturday morning, RSP workers have been protesting the conditions of his transfer.

The District Court of Kaski has issued arrest warrants for 14 individuals, including Lamichhane. The District Police Office in Kaski plans to prosecute him for organized crime and cooperative fraud.

The RSP alleges that Lamichhane, a former home minister, was arrested as part of political revenge.

According to the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police, his arrest is linked to an investigation involving fraud and organized crime connected to the Suryadarshan Savings and Loan Cooperative Society Limited in Pokhara.

With today being a public holiday, police officials have indicated that Lamichhane will be presented in court tomorrow.
