Misappropriation of Cooperative Funds: Parliamentary Inquiry Committee to take statement from Rabi Lamichhane on August 23

KATHMANDU: The Parliamentary Inquiry Special Committee investigating the misappropriation of funds from cooperatives is set to take a statement from Rabi Lamichhane, Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), on August 23.

Lamichhane is under scrutiny for alleged embezzlement involving funds from Suryadarshan Cooperative in Pokhara, Supreme Cooperative in Butwal, and Sahara Cooperative in Chitwan, which were reportedly funneled through Gorkha Media.

The Committee is also gathering statements from directors and shareholders of nearly 100 troubled cooperatives across the country, including those mentioned.

Surya Thapa, Chairman of the Committee, stated that the process of gathering statements has reached its final phase, with the focus now shifting towards drafting the report.

A Committee member confirmed that Lamichhane and Chabilal Joshi Banjade, who is also linked to the Gorkha Media case, will provide their statements on August 23.

“We are set to hear from Rabi Lamichhane and Chabilal Joshi Banjade,” a member of the Committee said.

Banjade, a business partner of GB, owner of Galaxy Television, has been associated with Rai since the inception of the television channel.

According to the Committee, evidence suggests that Chairman Lamichhane and others have been involved in embezzling funds by transferring money from various cooperatives.
