KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) KP Oli emphasized the importance of citizens having easy access to public information and state affairs to foster institutional democracy and promote good governance.

On the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the National Information Commission, PM Oli expressed his belief that the free flow of accurate information would enhance citizen participation in the governance system and lend legitimacy to the system.

In his congratulatory message, the Prime Minister extended his best wishes to the Chief Information Commissioner, Commissioners, and all employees of the Commission.

He highlighted that the Nepali constitution guarantees citizens the right to seek and receive information on any matter of public interest or personal concern from public offices.

“It is imperative that public agencies be responsible, accountable, and transparent in a democratic system. Accountability, responsibility, and transparency are essential for maintaining good governance in the country,” PM Oli stated.

He also noted that the effective implementation of the Right to Information (RTI) Act is crucial for achieving the government’s goal of a well-governed Nepal.

PM Oli urged both the government and all public agencies to enhance their commitment to enforcing RTI.

He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to the effective implementation of this crucial legislation.

The Prime Minister concluded by encouraging the National Information Commission to further strengthen its accountability and effectiveness in upholding citizens’ RTI.
