Prime Minister directs Kulman Ghising to restore electricity to industries immediately
Prime Minister KP Oli has instructed Nepal Electricity Authority’s (NEA) Executive Director Kulman Ghising to immediately restore electricity to various industries affected by the dedicated feeder and trunk line dispute. During a collective discussion on Friday with officials from the industry, energy sectors, and the NEA, Prime Minister Oli issued this directive. According to sources from Baluwatar, following the Prime Minister’s directive, Ghising stated that a board meeting would be held to decide on the matter.
Surya Darshan Cooperative transferred 50 million to Rabi Lamichhane associated Gorkha Media: Surya Thapa
A parliamentary investigation special committee has uncovered that Rs 50 million was transferred from Surya Darshan Cooperative to Gorkha Media, where Rabi Lamichhane serves as the managing director. The committee, which investigates the misuse of cooperative funds, held a meeting on Friday with regulatory bodies from provincial and local levels to discuss the state of cooperative operations. During the meeting at Singha Durbar, officials from these regulatory bodies were present to discuss the operation of cooperatives at both the provincial and local levels.
Maoist Center, RSP and Unified Socialist to oppose Oli’s vote of confidence
The three opposition parties, including CPN-Maoist Center and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and CPN-Unified Socialist, have decided to vote against Prime Minister KP Oli’s vote of confidence vote proposal. The decision was made during a meeting attended by Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ Unified Socialist Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal, and RSP Chair Rabi Lamichhane. “We have decided not to support Oli’s confidence vote on Sunday, Maoist Center’s Deputy General Secretary Barshaman Pun said after the meeting, adding, “We conclude that forming a government under Article 76 (2) again, instead of Article 76 (3), is unconstitutional.”
Deputy Speaker Rana denies writing to US Embassy seeking visa
Deputy Speaker Indira Rana has refuted claims that she wrote a letter to the US Embassy in Kathmandu seeking visas. In a press statement issued on Friday, Rana clarified that she did not request visas from the US Embassy for any participants of the NGO CSW67 Forum held in March 2023. She stated that she only asked the Embassy to schedule visa interviews.
Nepal defeats UAE in the Women’s Asia Cup opener with Samjhana’s stellar performance
Nepal made a victorious start in the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup by defeating the UAE by 6 wickets in the opening match. Chasing a target of 116 runs set by the UAE, Nepal reached the target in 16.1 overs with 4 wickets down. Samjhana Khadka played an outstanding innings, scoring an unbeaten 72 runs, while Rubina Chhetri contributed 10 runs. Earlier, after losing the toss and being sent to bat first, the UAE scored 115 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs.
Ten people killed in elephant attacks in Koshi Province over the past year
Ten people lost their lives, and 25 others were injured in elephant attacks in Koshi Province during the fiscal year 2023/24. According to the Province Police Office in Biratnagar, five elephants also died during this period. The fatalities included residents of Jhapa, Morang, and Sunsari, with six people from Jhapa, three from Sunsari, and one from Morang killed in the attacks, according to spokesperson Bhim Bahadur Dahal. In November last year, a herd of over 35 elephants caused significant loss of lives and property.
RPP will stand as a strong opposition: Rajendra Lingden
Rajendra Lingden, the chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), has stated that his party will stand as a strong opposition in the House of Representatives. Speaking with Khabarhub on Friday, Lingden mentioned that the RPP will neither support nor vote in favor of Prime Minister KP Oli in the upcoming vote of confidence on Sunday. “We had considered supporting the government if there was an agenda for a constitutional amendment, but this issue has now been sidelined. Since other issues and agendas of the RPP are also not being included, we will neither vote for nor support Oli,” he said.
