KATHMANDU: The three opposition parties, including CPN-Maoist Center and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and CPN-Unified Socialist, have decided to vote against Prime Minister KP Oli’s vote of confidence vote proposal.
The decision was made during a meeting attended by Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ Unified Socialist Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal, and RSP Chair Rabi Lamichhane.
“We have decided not to support Oli’s confidence vote on Sunday, Maoist Center’s Deputy General Secretary Barshaman Pun said after the meeting, adding, “We conclude that forming a government under Article 76 (2) again, instead of Article 76 (3), is unconstitutional.”
Pun shared that there was an agreement to act as a strong opposition to safeguard democratic values, as the alliance of major parties could pose a risk of authoritarianism.
Prime Minister Oli is scheduled to seek a confidence vote in the House of Representatives on Sunday.
