KMC and locals clash over footpath expansion in New Road (Photos)

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) began expanding the footpath in New Road, Kathmandu, on Wednesday following approval from the Patan High Court.

However, the expansion efforts were met with resistance from local residents and public representatives on Friday morning.

Among those obstructing the work was Chini Kaji Maharjan, the Ward Chairman of KMC-22.

Previously, the expansion had been halted due to objections from the Road Division, Kathmandu.

In response, KMC filed a writ petition at the High Court, which subsequently granted permission for the footpath expansion.

On Friday morning, the situation escalated as locals took to the streets to protest the construction.

Authorities responded by deploying Nepal Police and Municipal Police to manage the situation.
