Koshi provincial assembly adjourned after opposition boycott

BIRATNAGAR: The 10th meeting of the fifth session of the Koshi provincial assembly was adjourned after the main opposition parties, Nepali Congress (NC) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), boycotted the session.

The meeting was scheduled to discuss the financial bill for the fiscal year 2081-82 as per Rule 125(4) of the Koshi Provincial Assembly Rules, 2074.

As Speaker Ambar Bahadur Bista was about to speak, opposition members from the Nepali Congress and RPP stood in protest.

The Speaker requested them to state their concerns.

Responding to Speaker’s request, NC lawmaker Gopal Tamang and RPP lawmaker Sabina Bajgai argued that the budget did not align with the policies and programs presented by the government.

They expressed disappointment, stating that the budget and plans in the Red Book would not fulfill the promises made to the people during the elections, leading their parties to decide to boycott the session.

With no representatives from opposition parties present, Speaker Bista adjourned the assembly until 3 pm.

However, as no consensus was reached between the ruling and opposition parties, the session was further adjourned until 11 am the following day.

Rewati Raman Bhandari, the Chief Whip of the CPN-UML, stated that the ruling coalition had open discussions with the opposition on their grievances, but some issues remained unresolved, leading to the adjournment of the session.
