KATHMANDU: A study has found that 73 percent children in the Kathmandu Valley face tooth decay issues.
The study conducted by the Kantipur Dental College (Teaching Hospital and Research Center) was based in 68 schools inside the Valley.
Information about this was shared through a press meet today on the eve of the World Oral Health Day.
The lack of oral hygiene practices which include proper brushing of tooth, refraining from packaged and junk food, chocolates, biscuits and other sugary foods have caused the issues of cavity and tooth decay among the children, hospital chief executive director Dr. Buddhiman Shrestha said during the press meet.
The study supported by the BM Foundation and Rotary Club of Kathmandu North mentioned 24,154 as respondents.
According to the hospital source, findings of recent dental camps it organized targeting various communities in Jhapa, Syangja, Kavrepalanchowk, Kailali, Sindhuli and Nuwakot are that 45 percent adults suffered from gum diseases.
