Maoist Center leaders opine Vice Chair Mahara should resign

KATHMANDU: CPN-Maoist Center office bearers have suggested that Vice Chairman Krishna Bahadur Mahara, who is accused of gold smuggling, should voluntarily resign from the party.

The Maoist Center held a meeting of its office bearers on Tuesday to address the situation concerning leader Mahara.

According to party spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota, discussions revolved around Mahara’s recent arrest in connection with a suspected involvement in a gold smuggling case.

Despite Mahara’s arrest in Bhairahawa on Monday, the party has not yet reached a decision regarding his status.

Another party official reported that Mahara has requested the party to allow him three more days to make his decision.

In response to Mahara’s request, the party leaders have decided to wait a few more days before making any decision on his fate.

Reports suggest that Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has suggested Mahara’s resignation, but no final decision has been made regarding suspending him from his position.
