BANGKOK: Nepali language speakers residing across the globe congregated in Bangkok, Thailand, to establish the Association of Nepali Origin (ANO), aiming to preserve Nepali language and culture through unity.
The inaugural gathering, held on Monday, marked the formation of the ANO’s first convention, appointing a 54-member working committee led by Dilli Adhikari, a social activist of Nepali descent residing in America, originally from Bhutan.
Over 100 individuals of Nepali origin from at least 27 countries participated in the event.
Adhikari, the President of the Intra National Welfare and Support Foundation of America, spearheaded the convention with the Foundation’s support.
The assembly elected Sushil Kumar Panta as Vice-Chairperson, Chudamani Bhattarai as General-Secretary, Chiran Jung Thapa as Secretary, Arjun Kumar Poudel as Joint-Secretary, Uday Narayan Mishra as Treasurer, and Gopi Karki as Joint-Treasurer of the working committee.
Furthermore, Dilli Adhikari was appointed Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, with members including Sushil Kumar Panta, Chudamani Bhattarai, Sadhana Ghimire, Babu Krishna Karki, Sunita Gurung, Omraj Gurung, Batsana Rai, TB Gurung, Biras Adhikari, and Karishma Subba.
Inaugurating the convention, Nepali Ambassador to Thailand, Dhan Bahadur Oli, expressed hope for the ANO to evolve into an organization fostering unity among Nepali-origin people worldwide, promoting cooperation and harmony.
He urged all Nepali-affiliated organizations to unite in safeguarding and promoting Nepali language, literature, and culture, fostering collaboration among Nepali speakers.
ANO Chairperson Adhikari emphasized the initiative’s aim to unite Nepali language speakers globally, driven by a shared sentiment and objective.
Nepalese from 27 different countries, including Nepal, India, Thailand, Myanmar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, United States of America, Portugal, Germany, South Korea, Italy, New Zealand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Bahrain, actively participated in the inaugural convention.
