UML Chair Oli expresses discontent over Vice Chancellor selection process

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli has expressed his discontent over the potential appointment of an individual with a track record of failure as the Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University.

Oli voiced his concerns during an event organized in Kathmandu on Monday, where he criticized the selection process led by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda.

Oli highlighted the unusual move by the Prime Minister in singling out the Vice-Chancellor without considering other qualified candidates.

He questioned the decision-making process, emphasizing the importance of competence and success in such a pivotal academic position.

Expressing his dissatisfaction, Oli announced the formation of a committee tasked with investigating and selecting individuals who have previously proven to be unsuccessful.

Currently, three individuals have been recommended, and Oli hinted that the third candidate might be appointed soon.

He defended the need for more individuals with a history of failure, suggesting that appointing them to key positions could bring a fresh perspective.

The controversy stems from Prime Minister Dahal forming a recommendation committee, led by Education Minister Ashok Rai, to select the next Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University.

The committee has put forward the names of Chitra Bahadur Budhathoki, Keshar Jung Baral, and Tanka Nath Dhamala for consideration, raising eyebrows and sparking debates about the criteria for such a crucial appointment.
