Local by-elections: 407 candidates in the fray for 44 seats

Nomination papers for the local level by-elections scheduled for Sunday were submitted at the office of the relevant election officer.

According to the Election Commission, the candidate registration process was conducted enthusiastically and peacefully.

Two women candidates have submitted their nomination papers for the position of head of the Kailali District Coordination Committee.

Former Speaker Dhungana to be cremated with state honor; today declared a public holiday

The government has decided to cremate Damannath Dhungana, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, with state honors.

In mourning for his passing, the government has also declared today a public holiday.

During a Council of Ministers meeting held at Baluwatar on Monday morning, the official residence of the Prime Minister, deep condolences were expressed for Dhungana’s death, and emotional tributes were paid.

Gold price up by Rs 1,000 per tola today

The price of gold and silver has increased today.

According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Traders, the price of gold has increased by Rs 1,000, bringing the price per tola to Rs 161,000.

This follows a trading price of Rs 160,000 per tola on Sunday.

PM pays tribute to former Speaker Dhungana

Prime Minister (PM) KP Oli has offered respects to former Speaker Damannath Dhungana, laying the national flag over his mortal remains.

The PM reached Sano Gaucharan at local Gyaneshwar today and offered his last respect.

On the occasion, PM Oli described former Speaker Dhungana as a multi-dimensional personality with a unique identity and principles in Nepal’s parliamentary practice.

NC to fly party flag at half-mast for two days to mourn Dhungana’s demise

The Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to close its central office on Tuesday (November 19) to mourn the death of former Speaker Damannath Dhungana.

In addition, the party has decided to fly the flag at half-mast at its central office for two days (Tuesday and Wednesday)

The party’s central committee meeting, held today, passed a condolence proposal and made the decision to hold a mourning meeting on the 13th day of demise.

Damanath Dhungana cremated with state honors

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Damannath Dhungana, was cremated with national honors at Pashupati Aryaghat on Monday.

In light of his passing, the government on Monday declared a public holiday.

Dhungana, who had been suffering from liver issues, passed away on Sunday afternoon at the age of 83 at Frontline Hospital in Mid Baneswor.

Prime Minister Oli and NC President Deuba hold talks at Baluwatar

Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba are holding a meeting at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar this evening.

Initially scheduled for 6 PM, the meeting was delayed by an hour as Deuba was engaged in internal discussions with Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak and other Congress leaders. The leaders convened at 7 PM.

The discussion focuses on reshuffling the cabinet, with sources close to Prime Minister Oli confirming ongoing deliberations.

Chhirkane-Deurali section of Prithvi Highway to close for four and half hours daily

The Chhirkane-Deurali road section along the under-construction Muglin Pokhara section of the Prithvi Highway will remain closed for four and a half hours daily for the next 20 days from today.

The section will be closed to traffic daily from 11.00 pm to 1.00 am in the first phase and from 1.30 am to 4.00 am in the second phase to carry out the road widening works.

The construction work is being carried out by closing the road section from Byas municipality-12, Chhirkane to Deurali along the Prithvi Highway in two phases.
