Former Chief Secretary Baikuntha Aryal resigns from NPC

KATHMANDU: Baikuntha Aryal, the former Chief Secretary of the Government of Nepal, has resigned from his position at the National Planning Commission.

Sources indicate that Aryal, who was recently appointed Chief Secretary in the Commission, submitted his resignation.

His resignation letter has been registered at the Prime Minister’s Office and the Council of Ministers.

A senior official at the Prime Minister’s Office said that Aryal’s resignation has not yet been accepted.

Aryal was suspended following a corruption case filed by the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), which involved his alleged role in a scam concerning the printing of excise stickers.

The day after the corruption case was registered against him, the cabinet approved the creation of a special category chief secretary position at the National Planning Commission, subsequently transferring Aryal.

His suspension was lifted after a special court acquitted him. Aryal presented his acquittal letter to the Prime Minister’s Office.
