KATHMANDU: The District Court of Kaski has authorized police to arrest 14 individuals, including Rabi Lamichhane, Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), as part of the investigation into the Suryadarshan Cooperative fraud.

On Friday, the District Police Office in Kaski requested the arrest warrants from the court.

According to the police’s request, they have gathered sufficient evidence, including witness statements, justifying the arrests under Section 9(3) of the Civil Code of Criminal Procedure, 2074.

The court granted permission to arrest the following individuals: Bishal Tamang, Nabin Achami, Rabeena Rimal, Ashraf Ali Siddiqui, Deepak Lama, Ananta Babu Rai, Ram Bahadur Khanal, Devendra Babu Rai, Bigyan Rai, Omprakash Gurung, Bir Bahadur Ranabhat, Dipa Neupane, and Kalpana Kumari Shrestha, in addition to former Home Minister Lamichhane.

Justice Krishna Jung Shah approved the request on Friday.

Earlier in the investigation, former DIG Chabilal Joshi was arrested, and he remains in custody as police continue their inquiries.

Chabilal Joshi was apprehended for allegedly misappropriating funds from the Suryadarshan Cooperative in Pokhara.

Following this, preparations were made to arrest Lamichhane.

The co-operative inquiry committee had recommended that GB Rai, Rabi Lamichhane, Kumar Ramtel, and Chabilal Joshi be subjected to legal action after uncovering evidence of fund embezzlement related to the cooperative’s operations.
