Vitamin ‘A’ and de-worming tablets being administered to children today and tomorrow

KATHMANDU: Children throughout the country are being administered Vitamin ‘A’ and de-worming tablets today and tomorrow.

Lila Bikram Thapa, Chief of the Nutrition Section, Family Welfare Division under the Department of Health Services, said that the program targeted to children less than five years will run on October 18 and 19.

Stating that the programme will be conducted in 753 local levels, he said the female health volunteers have been mobilize at schools, the ward offices and other convenient places for this purpose.

Each year, children aged six months to under five years are administered Vitamin ‘A’ capsules and de-worming tablets under the National Immunization Programme.

“Immunization as well as nutrition both are inevitable for the holistic development of children. We have the goal of administering Vitamin A capsules to around 2.1 million children aged six months to less than five years, and the de-worming tablets to 1.8 to 1.9 million children aged one year to less than five years,” Thapa added.

The Ministry of Health and Population has urged parents to contact the female health volunteers or the nearest health post or ward office to get their children administered with Vitamin ‘A’ and de-worming tablets.
