KATHMANDU: Tribhuvan International Airport welcomed 96 Israeli tourists, including 12 individuals with disabilities, on Tuesday night. The tourists arrived in coordination with the Israeli Embassy in Nepal and were greeted by Israeli Ambassador Hanan Goder and Acting Market Director of the Nepal Tourism Board, Laxman Gautam.

The tour is being organized by Shalom Rafting Treks and Expedition and Master Himalayas. The group is scheduled to explore various regions, including Pokhara, Manang, and Mustang.

They arrived in Pokhara from Kathmandu on Wednesday and will return to Kathmandu via helicopter on Thursday.

Deepak Raj Joshi, CEO of NTB, said that the visits of differently-abled tourists and their adventurous travel plans highlight Nepal’s status as both an adventurous and disability-friendly destination.

“We have developed disability-friendly trails and infrastructure in several locations, reinforcing Nepal’s appeal as a destination accessible to everyone,” said Joshi.

Israeli Ambassador Goder, during a special reception at the airport, praised Nepal as a safe and welcoming destination for Israeli tourists, encouraging them to fully experience the country’s beauty.

“Nepal is a natural wonder with its rich art, culture, tradition, and hospitality,” he said, “Past positive experiences from differently-abled tourists have led to an increase in visitors, and I believe this trend will continue.”

Acting Marketing Director of the NTB, Gautam, said the visit of differently-abled tourists from Israel is a positive sign which can inspire others worldwide.

“The willpower and confidence of these tourists show Nepal’s attractiveness and accessibility. Their enthusiasm will undoubtedly resonate with other travellers,” said Gautam.

In 2023, 6,417 Israeli tourists visited Nepal, and by August 2024, 3,205 Israeli tourists had already arrived. Last year, a group of tourists with disabilities also visited Nepal in collaboration with the Israeli embassy.
