PM Oli urges athletes to protect national unity amid rising division attempts

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called on athletes to stand against efforts to undermine national unity by inciting divisions among people under various pretexts.

Speaking at the opening session of the third meeting of the Central Committee of the Nepal Sports Federation today, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of preserving unity in the face of forces that seek to divide the nation along lines of religion, caste, and other identities.

“In such a small country, we are blessed with diverse castes, languages, and ideologies living together. This is our wealth and living heritage,” PM Oli stated.

“We must not allow our nation and the people’s sentiments to be divided in any way.”

The Prime Minister stressed that the sports sector transcends caste or religious boundaries, noting that athletes are selected based on merit.

He emphasized the importance of discipline, law, and order in building a cohesive society, urging the public to align with truth amid the spread of falsehoods and rumors intended to mislead.

PM Oli warned that attempts may be made to disrupt peace, good governance, and the rule of law, and called for vigilance.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to preventing corruption and promoting good governance, highlighting the administration’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption.

As the Chairperson of the CPN (UML), the Prime Minister urged athletes to take an active role in advancing the sports sector, encouraging people of all ages to incorporate sports into their lives based on their interests and abilities.

He underscored the potential for Nepali athletes to achieve significant success on the international stage through professional dedication and passion, pledging the government’s full support for the promotion of sports.

Highlighting the government’s focus on upgrading the Kirtipur cricket stadium as a reflection of its commitment to sports, PM Oli called on the youth involved in the Federation to contribute to building a prosperous, safe, and just society while safeguarding national independence, democracy, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
