KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Rajendra Lingden has torn up a budget booklet on the rostrum of the House of Representatives on Tuesday.

He shredded the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure’s budget booklet in protest.

Lingden has consistently opposed the budget since its introduction.

On Tuesday, during the discussion on the ministry’s budget, he expressed his frustration by tearing up the booklet.

“Usually, I consider myself a person who expresses less anger and gets less angry. Anger sometimes flares up but subsides after a while. However, since I got my hands on the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure’s budget booklet, I’ve been so enraged that I want to tear it apart,” Lingden said.

The RPP chair accused the government of acting without any sense of shame or responsibility, allocating budget arbitrarily without naming specific districts in the plans.

“The ministers in the government have done as they pleased while preparing and allocating the budget,” he said.

Recalling the lengthy process of approving plans, Lingden criticized that now the budget seems to come from the minister’s own pocket.

“The Prime Minister is satisfied with just Gorkha-2. The ministers are content with their own areas. Even inherited property cannot be used at will,” he said sarcastically, adding, “Money mentioned in the budget is the national property. We need to reform this electoral system.”
