KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba emphasized the crucial need to address the rights of Nepalis employed overseas.

Speaking at the inauguration of the 12th general convention of the Democratic Foreign Employment Entrepreneurs, a sister-organization of the party, in Kathmandu today, NC President Deuba called upon the government to take concrete measures to rescue Nepalis who have been defrauded while seeking foreign employment.

“I am aware that Nepalis aspiring for jobs abroad face various challenges and are often exploited. Therefore, I urge the government to put an end to their exploitation,” stated the NC President.

He emphasized the government’s responsibility to address the issues faced by workers, highlighting their significant contribution to Nepal’s remittance income.

During the event, Dr. Sekhar Koirala, a central member of the party, raised concerns about the challenges faced by entrepreneurs due to frequent policy changes with each change in government.

He urged the government to address the practice of Nepalis going abroad on visit visas and working illegally.

Koirala also stressed the need for electoral system reform to ensure political stability, stating that stable politics is essential for good governance. He mentioned that the NC has raised cooperative issues in parliament.

Furthermore, Prakash Rashaili, chief of the central member and coordinator of the foreign employment and immigration department of the party, expressed grievances about some government officials harassing foreign employment entrepreneurs despite them operating within the confines of the law.

Central members Sita Devkota and Abdul Satar emphasized the necessity of policy measures friendly to foreign employment entrepreneurs, advocating for the creation of safe and dignified working conditions for Nepalis seeking employment abroad.
