KATHMANDU: Discussions to break the parliamentary deadlock are currently underway between Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and leaders of the Nepali Congress (NC).
The meeting is being held at Prime Minister Dahal’s residence in Baluwatar.
NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Vice Chairman Purna Bahadur Khadka, General Secretary Gagan Thapa, and Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak are present at the meeting.
The Nepali Congress has been demanding a parliamentary committee to investigate allegations of cooperative fraud involving Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane.
Due to the ruling alliance’s reluctance to form the probe committee, the NC has been obstructing meetings of both the lower and upper houses of parliament.
On Thursday, a scuffle broke out between lawmakers of the NC and CPN-UML following a heated exchange between the UML Chair and the Vice President of the NC during a parliament meeting.
PM Dahal has been busy holding talks with leaders of both ruling and opposition parties in an effort to build political consensus and end the parliamentary deadlock.
