KATHMANDU: The borders of four districts in Madhes Province adjoining India has been closed for three days starting from midnight Friday.
The affected districts are Siraha, Dhanusha, Saptari, and Mahottari, which share a border with Madhubani district in Bihar, India.
This temporary closure is in response to the Loksabha election taking place in Madhubani on Monday.
The decision to seal the borders for 72 hours comes at the request of the Madhubani district administration, which cited election security concerns.
Letters were sent to the chief district officers of the four Nepali districts, requesting their cooperation in this matter.
In addition, the cross-border railway service between Bhangaha, Janakpurdham, and Jaynagar will be suspended for the same duration, as confirmed by Niranjan Jha, General Manager of the Railway Company.
This measure aims to ensure a smooth and secure electoral process in the bordering region of Bihar.
