Unified Socialist-led govt will be formed in Sudurpaschim Province: Rajendra Pandey

KATHMANDU: The deadline set by the head of Sudurpaschim Province for appointing a new chief minister expires today, plunging the region into uncertainty.

Confusion looms as the CPN-UML, a major player in the political landscape, has announced its refusal to back the long-standing coalition of the Unified Socialist Party.

Conversely, the UML has asserted that it won’t support Dirgha Sodari, while the Unified Socialist Party aligns itself with the Nepali Congress.

Rajendra Pandey, Vice Chairman of Unified Socialist, asserted, “A Unified Socialist-led government will be formed in Sudurpaschim. There are several potential avenues.”

Reports suggest Madhav Kumar Nepal, Chairman of the Unified Socialist Party, sought assistance from Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Wednesday evening regarding the Sudurpaschim situation.

With 27 votes needed for a majority among the 52 current state members, uncertainty prevails over whether the 5 MPs from Resham Chaudhary’s Nagarik Unmukti Party will rally behind the Unified Socialist.
