ICC Chairman Greg Barkley arrives in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Greg Barkley, Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), touched down in Kathmandu on Monday evening, initiating a pivotal four-day visit.

Barkley, who recently attended the Women’s Premier League final in Delhi, landed at Tribhuvan International Airport this afternoon, commencing his official engagements.

He was warmly welcomed by Paras Khadha, Secretary of the Cricket Association of Nepal, and Treasurer Padam Khadka upon his arrival.

During his stay, Barkley is scheduled to conduct crucial meetings with prominent figures, including Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Finance Minister Barsa Man Pun, Sports Minister Bhiraj Bhakta Shrestha, and officials from the National Sports Council and Cricket Association of Nepal.

Furthermore, Barkley will inspect cricket facilities at the Tribhuvan International Cricket Ground and Mulpani International Cricket Stadium, underscoring the ICC’s interest in Nepal’s cricket infrastructure.

As part of his cultural immersion, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has arranged a scenic mountain flight for Barkley, allowing him to marvel at the beauty of the Kathmandu Valley.

Additionally, sightseeing excursions to iconic landmarks like Swayambhunath, Patan Durbar Square, and Boudhanath Stupa have been organized.

Barkley’s visit will be brief, as he is set to return to Delhi on Thursday morning.

Subsequently, he will attend the inaugural ceremony of the Indian Premier League (IPL) before heading back to his home country.
