KATHMANDU: In today’s House of Representatives (HoR) session, the Nepali Congress (NC), the main opposition party, demanded a fair investigation into cases of cooperative fraud.

At the start of the session, NC lawmakers rose from their seats, prompting Speaker Devraj Ghimire to allow NC General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa to voice their concerns.

Thapa raised allegations against Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Rabi Lamichhane, regarding cooperative disputes, questioning his suitability to continue in office amidst these controversies.

Thapa pointed out that Lamichhane is allegedly involved in disputes with Surya Darshan and Suprim Cooperatives, raising doubts about his eligibility for the ministerial position until these issues are resolved.

He emphasized the necessity of an impartial investigation, stating, “It is unclear whether he is guilty or not. He will undergo investigation. However, he faces allegations of cooperative misappropriation.

The question arises whether the accused individual can ensure an impartial investigation.”

Thapa highlighted the importance of creating an environment for cooperative victims to recover their deposits, urging Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ to work towards establishing such an atmosphere.

While expressing NC’s desire for the House to operate smoothly, Thapa urged a swift response from the Prime Minister on their concerns.

In response, the Speaker expressed hope that the government would address the matter promptly, recognizing its significance.
