Rabi Lamichhane to be brought to court today for remand extension

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President and former Home Minister, Rabi Lamichhane, will be presented in the Kaski District Court today for an extension of his remand.

Lamichhane’s latest five-day remand for investigation in a cooperative fraud case expired on Monday, and the police are now seeking further time to continue their investigation.

The District Police Office, Kaski, confirmed that Lamichhane will be brought before the court today for the extension. The former minister, who was arrested on October 18, has already been remanded in custody seven times as part of the ongoing investigation.

In addition to the cooperative fraud case, Lamichhane is also facing a money laundering case. Under the law, authorities are permitted to conduct a 90-day investigation, and his current detention is tied to both cases.

The Government Attorney’s Office is preparing to file a chargesheet against Lamichhane in the Kaski District Court by Friday.

The investigation is focused on his alleged involvement in the cooperative fraud case, with Lamichhane being accused of financial misconduct.

Meanwhile, former DIG Chhabilal Joshi, operator of Gorkha Media Network, who was arrested in connection with the cooperative fraud, organized crime, and money laundering cases, is set to complete his 90-day arrest period on December 20.
