Maoist Center and Unified Socialist agree to forge alliance in local by-elections in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: The Maoist Center and Unified Socialist Party have reached an agreement to coordinate their efforts in the December 1 local by-elections scheduled.

As part of this agreement, they will collaborate on the election of the Mayor of Kirtipur Municipality in Kathmandu and the Chairmanship of Ward No. 16 in Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

Under the terms of the agreement, the Unified Socialist Party will support the Maoist Center’s candidate, Prof. Dr. Shivsharan Maharjan, for the position of Mayor of Kirtipur.

In return, the Maoist Center will support Min Bahadur Manandhar from the Unified Socialist for the Chairmanship of Ward No. 16 in Kathmandu.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by Agni Sapkota, Vice Chair of the Maoist Center, and Rajendra Pandey, Senior Vice Chair of Unified Socialist.

In addition to the mayoral election in Kirtipur, by-elections will also be held for the chairmanships of Wards No. 1 and 4.

The Maoist Center has already announced candidates for both of these wards, while the Unified Socialist has finalized candidate only for Ward No. 4.

The Maoist Center has nominated Astaman Maharjan as their candidate for the Chairmanship of Ward No. 1 and Narayan Bista for Ward No. 4.

The Unified Socialist Party has put forward Rita Khadka as their candidate for Ward No. 4.
