KATHMANDU: Following an order from the Patan High Court, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has commenced the expansion of the footpath in New Road.
The expansion work began on Wednesday morning, covering the stretch from Juddha Shalik to Indra Chowk.
Previously halted by the Divisional Road Office, the KMC sought intervention from the High Court.
In response, a joint bench of Judges Dhruba Raj Nanda and Prakash Kharel issued an interim order, allowing the expansion to proceed.
The court noted that, under Article 57 of the Constitution of Nepal, local authorities retain rights over local roads, rural roads, agricultural roads, and irrigation.
This constitutional provision favored the KMC, paving the way for the footpath expansion to continue.
