KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Valley is facing a severe shortage of petrol and diesel as tanker drivers have halted fuel transport from depots since Saturday.
The shortage has arisen due to a strike by petroleum transport workers who have put forth various demands.
As a result, long queues were seen at the remaining petrol stations with reserves on Monday, including those operated by the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and Sajha.
By Monday afternoon, most petrol stations had run out of fuel and closed.
Even the Nepal Army’s Ripumardini petrol pump at Bhadrakali reported that it had exhausted its fuel supplies, posting a “No Petrol” sign.
This caused significant inconvenience to hundreds of consumers waiting in line.
The strike by tanker drivers, ongoing since Saturday, is the cause of the fuel scarcity.
The drivers have stopped operating fuel tankers to press their demands, leading to a widespread fuel shortage.
On Monday, most petrol stations remained closed, leaving only the army, Sajha, Nepal Police, and Armed Police petrol pumps distributing fuel.
