Bangladesh qualifies for Super Eights of ICC T20 World Cup by defeating Nepal by 21 runs

KATHMANDU: In their final match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Nepal faced a 21-run defeat against Bangladesh.

With this victory, Bangladesh has qualified for the Super Eights of the tournament.

Batting first, Bangladesh set a target of 107 runs, scoring 106 runs in 19.3 overs.

Nepal’s bowlers, including Sompal Kami, Dipendra Singh Airee, Sandeep Lamichhane, and Rohit Kumar Paudel, showcased an impressive performance, each taking two wickets to restrict Bangladesh to a low total.

Additionally, two Bangladeshi batsmen were run out during the innings.

Shakib Al Hasan led the scoreboard for Bangladesh with the highest score of 17 runs.

Mohammadullah contributed 13 runs off 13 balls before being run out, including two boundaries.

Rishad Hossain scored 13 runs off 7 balls, hitting 1 four and 1 six.

Other notable contributions came from Ali with 12 runs off 26 balls, Taskin Ahmed with 12 runs, and opener Litton Das with 10 runs.

Sandeep Lamichhane reached a historic milestone during the match by taking his 100th wicket in T20 Internationals.

He bowled 4 overs, conceding only 17 runs and taking two crucial wickets.

Captain Rohit Paudel bowled 4 overs, securing two wickets for 20 runs.

Dipendra Singh Airee took two wickets for 22 runs in 3.2 overs, and Sompal Kami set the tone for Nepal by taking a wicket on the first ball, finishing with figures of 2 wickets for 10 runs in 3 overs.

In the second innings, Nepal struggled with the bat, getting bowled out for 85 runs in 19.2 overs.

Bangladesh successfully defended the lowest total in the T20 World Cup.

For Nepal, Kushal Malla contributed the highest with 27 runs, while Dipendra Singh Airee and Aasif Sheikh added 25 and 17 runs, respectively.

No other Nepali batsman managed to reach double-digit scores, with five of them losing their wickets for ducks.

For Bangladesh, Tanzim Hasan Sakib took four wickets, conceding only seven runs, while Mustafizur Rahman took three wickets.

Shakib Al Hasan took two wickets, and Taskin Ahmed took one wicket.
