KATHMANDU: The main opposition party, Nepali Congress (NC), is currently implementing a strategy to bring all opposition parties together against the ruling alliance.

Following a recent altercation with lawmakers of CPN-UML, the NC is now focused on creating a unified front among opposition parties for a common purpose or goal.

This move by the NC comes in response to the ruling alliance’s reluctance to form a parliamentary committee to investigate the involvement of Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane in a cooperative fraud case.

President of the Nepali Congress, Sher Bahadur Deuba, convened a joint meeting of all opposition parties at Singha Durbar on Friday, ahead of the scheduled parliament meeting.

The parliament meeting, initially scheduled for 11 a.m. this morning, has yet to be held.

Nepali Congress has been obstructing meetings of both the lower and upper houses of parliament, demanding the formation of a probe committee to investigate Home Minister Lamichhane’s involvement.

Participants in the Meeting Summoned by Deuba:

  • Chairman of Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal, Upendra Yadav, and Raj Kishwor Yadav
  • Vice Chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Buddi Man Tamang, and Chief Whip Gyanendra Shahi
  • Chairman of Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, Mahantha Thakur
  • Chairman of CPN (Unified Socialist), Madhav Kumar Nepal
