KATHMANDU: In what will be remembered as one of the most sensational encounters in the history of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL), Rajasthan Royals (RR) staged an extraordinary comeback to equal their own record for the highest successful chase, overpowering Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in a nerve-wracking showdown at the iconic Eden Gardens.

The match unfolded as a tale of two cricketing titans, with Sunil Narine delivering a mesmerizing century for KKR, marking his first in the TATA IPL, while RR’s Jos Buttler, amid a seemingly dire situation, held firm and produced a performance for the ages, guiding his team to a historic two-wicket triumph.

Facing a daunting target of 224, RR initially faltered, finding themselves at 128 for six in 14 overs, with boundaries drying up and victory appearing out of reach.

However, a resilient partnership between Buttler and Riyan Parag reignited hope, before Buttler unleashed a breathtaking assault on the KKR bowlers.

With the odds stacked against them, Buttler and Rovman Powell launched a furious counterattack, pummeling the ball to all corners of the ground.

Powell’s aggressive cameo was brought to an end by Narine, but Buttler, undeterred, continued his onslaught.

As wickets tumbled around him, Buttler stood tall, taking the responsibility upon himself to steer RR towards the target.

Even as partners came and went, Buttler remained resolute, deftly maneuvering the strike and punishing the KKR bowlers with an array of powerful strokes.

The climax of the match unfolded in the final overs, with Buttler showcasing nerves of steel as he single-handedly guided RR to the brink of victory.

Despite a valiant effort from KKR’s bowlers to apply pressure, Buttler’s brilliance shone through as he smashed a monumental century, securing the win off the final ball amidst jubilant celebrations from the RR camp.

Earlier in the match, KKR had posted a formidable total of 223, fueled by Narine’s scintillating century, supported by contributions from Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Rinku Singh.

However, their efforts were overshadowed by Buttler’s masterclass, which etched his name into the annals of IPL history.

The electrifying atmosphere at the Eden Gardens bore witness to an unforgettable spectacle, with both teams leaving everything on the field in a display of cricketing excellence.

As RR savored their remarkable triumph, KKR was left to rue missed opportunities in what will be remembered as a classic encounter in IPL folklore.
