Former Kathmandu Mayor PL Singh passes away

Former Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, PL Singh, has passed away.

Singh, 85, died this morning (Monday) at his residence in Chaksibari, Thamel, according to family sources. He had been battling an ulcer for a long time.

Singh was also a key aide to Ganeshman Singh in the fight for democracy. Recently, he had parted ways with the Nepali Congress.

Karnali in playoffs despite loss, Kathmandu eliminated

Kathmandu Gurkhas has become the fourth team to be eliminated from the league stage of the Nepal Premier League (NPL).

Kathmandu, currently in fifth place with 8 points, has been eliminated based on their run rate.

Kathmandu had a slim chance of reaching the playoffs after Karnali Yaks suffered a heavy defeat to Sudurpaschim Royals on Monday.

Capital expenditure hits just 11%, revenue collection at 28%

Both the government’s income and expenditure have been weak in the first five months of the current fiscal year 2024/25.

As of December 15, the government has collected 28% of its annual revenue target while spending around 30% of its budget, according to data from the Office of the Comptroller General.

The data reveals that development expenditure has been particularly sluggish. For the current fiscal year, Rs 352.354 billion was allocated for capital expenditure, but only Rs 40.8006 billion (11.58%) has been spent so far.

Shree Airlines flight overshoots landing after dog runs onto runway in Surkhet

A Shree Airlines flight from Kathmandu avoided disaster on Monday afternoon when a dog ran onto the runway just as the plane was preparing to land at Surkhet Airport.

The aircraft, with call sign 9N122, was scheduled to land at 1:15 pm when the dog appeared on the tarmac, prompting the pilot to abort the landing.

The plane made three loops before safely landing on a subsequent approach.

Police submit report, clearing path for Rabi Lamichhane’s trial

The police have submitted an investigation report against former Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane to the District Attorney’s Office in Kaski, signaling the possibility of imminent court proceedings.

Lamichhane, the chair Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), is accused of involvement in a cooperative savings scam.

The Cooperative Special Investigation Committee, led by UML lawmaker Surya Bahadur Thapa, previously found him guilty and recommended legal action. Following this, Lamichhane was arrested on October 18 and has been in Kaski Police custody since October 19.

Nepal enters Super 4 of U-19 Women’s Asia Cup after defeating Pakistan

The Nepali women’s under-19 cricket team has advanced to the Super 4 stage of the ongoing Under-19 Women’s Asia Cup in Malaysia after an impressive 6-wicket victory over Pakistan at the Bayumas Oval on Tuesday.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, Pakistan posted 104 in their allotted 20 overs. In response, Nepal successfully chased down the target in 19 overs, losing just 4 wickets.

Nepal, with this crucial win, secured a spot in the Super 4 even with one group-stage match left to play against India.

SC ruling allows UML to build central office on donated land

The Supreme Court has dismissed the writ petition challenging the land donation made by Min Bahadur Gurung, the owner of Bhatbhateni Superstore, for the construction of the CPN-UML party central office.

A joint bench of Justices Bal Krishna Dhakal and Abdul Aziz Musalman issued the dismissal order on Monday after hearing the case. The petition was filed by advocate Gyan Kumar Basnet.

With this decision, the construction of the UML central office building on the donated land in Kirtipur Municipality can now proceed without legal obstacles.
