Police submit report, clearing path for Rabi Lamichhane’s trial

KATHMANDU: The police have submitted an investigation report against former Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane to the District Attorney’s Office in Kaski, signaling the possibility of imminent court proceedings.

Lamichhane, the chair Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), is accused of involvement in a cooperative savings scam.

The Cooperative Special Investigation Committee, led by UML lawmaker Surya Bahadur Thapa, previously found him guilty and recommended legal action. Following this, Lamichhane was arrested on October 18 and has been in Kaski Police custody since October 19.

A senior Nepal Police official confirmed that the investigation report was submitted on Monday.

The Government Attorney’s Office in Kaski is expected to register all three cases — including charges of cooperative fraud, money laundering, forgery, and organized crime — at the District Court shortly.
