Arrest warrant issued for Inspector Shahi in “honey trap” case

KATHMANDU: An arrest warrant has been issued for Binukumari Shahi, the former chief of Lalitpur’s Bhainsepati Police Division, in connection with a honey trap case.

Lalitpur Police Chief Shekhar Khanal confirmed the issuance of the arrest warrant, although he did not specify the exact date it was issued.

Sources indicate that the warrant was issued prior to Dashain.

“Now that the arrest warrant has been issued, we are prepared to apprehend Shahi and bring her in for questioning,” SSP Khanal stated. “We are searching for her.”

In connection with this case, four individuals, including an assistant constable, have already been arrested. The assistant constable was operating in the Bhainsepati area.

Inspector Shahi is accused of negotiating a deal of Rs 30 lakh with the alleged victim, claiming she would facilitate a false rape accusation as part of the honey trap scheme.

The case came to light when the victim reported the incident to the police.

The authorities have arrested three individuals, including the woman implicated in the honey trap.

Following the incident’s revelation, Inspector Shahi was removed from her duties and transferred to the Metropolitan Police Office in Ranipokhari, where she was subsequently suspended.

Police have stated they do not know her current whereabouts, as she is under royal suspension.

With nearly three weeks having passed since the initial arrests, the police are expected to submit their investigation report to the district attorney’s office within the next few days.

Speculation arises that Shahi may be declared a fugitive defendant when the report is submitted.

The law mandates that a charge sheet must be filed in court within 25 days following the police arrests in this case.
