Dudhkoshi flood devastates 40% of houses in Thame village

SOLUKHUMBU: An avalanche is suspected to have triggered severe flooding in the Khumbu region of Nepal’s Solukhumbu district.

According to local representatives, a major flood occurred in the Thame area of Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality-5 due to the bursting of snow in the Dudhkoshi River.

Solukhumbu Chief District Officer Devi Pandey (Khatri) stated that both police and army personnel have been deployed to the affected area following news of the heavy flood in Dudhkoshi.

Pandey indicated that it remains unclear whether an avalanche or another event caused the flood.

She confirmed that two hotels have already been swept away by the floodwaters, and details about human casualties are still pending.

Ngwang Jangmu Sherpa, a ward member of Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-5, reported significant damage due to the flood.

She said that many houses in Thame have been severely affected, with at least 70 houses being completely submerged.

According to her, approximately 40 percent of the houses in the village have been devastated.
