Simaltal mishap: Bodies of Ganapati Deluxe bus driver and conductor found

The bodies of the driver and conductor of the Ganapati Deluxe bus, which was swept into the Trishuli River by a landslide last Friday on the Narayangadh-Muglin road in Simaltal, have been found. Their bodies were discovered 103 kilometers downstream at the Gandak Barrage bridge. According to the Chitwan District Administration Office, the bodies were identified by their families on Tuesday.

Conflict between Mayor Sampang and Ward Chairs continues in Dharan, leading to budget impasse

The ongoing conflict between Mayor Harkaraj Rai and Ward Chairs, along with executive members, in Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City remains unresolved. Since being elected on May 13, 2022, Mayor Sampang has struggled to coordinate with all elected representatives, leading to increasing issues. The budget for the upcoming fiscal year had been prepared, and a municipal assembly was scheduled after the ward chairs and the executive members reached an agreement.

SC orders eviction of squatters from riverbanks with compensation

The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered the eviction of squatters occupying government land along riverbanks in Kathmandu, even if it requires providing them with financial compensation. A joint bench of Justices Ananda Mohan Bhattarai and Binod Sharma issued the order, mandating the identification of genuine squatters and their relocation to the housing units constructed in Ichangu Narayan. If these units prove insufficient, additional housing should be constructed elsewhere.

Cooperative probe committee holds discussion with ex-secretaries

The Parliamentary Investigation Special Committee formed to probe the alleged misuse of cooperatives funds today discussed with ex-secretaries and former auditor generals. The committee held discussions with former Auditor General Tanka Mani Sharma, ex-secretaries at the Ministry of Cooperatives Gopinath Mainali and Dr Damodar Regmi, according to committee president Surya Thapa.

NEPSE surges by 70 points on Tuesday

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) experienced a significant rise today, increasing by 70.18 points to close at 2310.59 on Tuesday, the third trading day of the week. After a decline on Monday following the appointment of the new Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel, NEPSE saw a substantial increase today. Today, 258.36 million shares of 315 companies were traded 119,011 times, resulting in a total turnover of Rs 9.14 billion.

Gold price sets new record in domestic market

The price of gold increased by Rs 900 per tola in the domestic market on Tuesday. According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, fine gold is now priced at Rs 147,800 per tola, while standard gold is trading at Rs 147,100 per tola. On Monday, fine gold was traded at Rs 146,900 per tola, and standard gold at Rs 146,200 per tola.

Singer Rabi Oad acquitted in marital rape case

Singer Rabi Oad has been acquitted in a marital rape case. The Kanchanpur District Court granted a clean chit to Oad in the case filed by his wife. A bench of Justice Chanakmani Aryal passed the verdict, acquitting Oad. The complaint was lodged by Oad’s wife on April 2 at the Area Police Office in Jalhari. Following the complaint, Oad was arrested on charges of marital rape but was later released on bail of Rs 500,000.
