Constitutional Council nominates Krishna Man Pradhan as Election Commissioner

Krishna Man Pradhan has been nominated for the position of Election Commissioner by the Constitutional Council. The meeting of the Constitutional Council, held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar on Sunday evening, decided to nominate Pradhan as Election Commissioner.

Tej Bikram Thapa arrested for embezzling Rs 1 billion from cooperative

Tej Bikram Thapa, known for his ownership of television channels and hospitals, has been arrested for allegedly embezzling Rs 1 billion from a cooperative. Thapa, who simultaneously chaired 10 different organizations, is now under investigation, with his wife also implicated. The case revolves around the Krishi Bikas Multipurpose Cooperative Society, Kumaripati, Lalitpur.

Govt faces Rs 250 billion budget deficit in 11 months

The government of Nepal is facing a budget deficit of nearly Rs 250 billion as of the end of Jestha. According to the Office of the Comptroller General, the government had collected Rs 944.59 billion in revenue but spent Rs 1,181.29 billion. The total revenue collection, primarily from taxes, amounted to Rs 919.19 billion, which is 64.62% of the targeted Rs 1,422.54 billion for the fiscal year. Despite the expected increase in revenue collection in the final month, meeting the target remains uncertain.

Justice Raut appointed as a Judicial Council member on Sunday

Supreme Court Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut has been appointed as a member of the Judicial Council. Justice Raut’s appointment follows the mandatory retirement of Supreme Court Justice Dr. Ananda Mohan Bhattarai on June 15 due to age limits. Chief Justice Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, who also chairs the Judicial Council, appointed Raut to the position on Sunday.

PM Dahal emphasizes three-tier collaboration for Chure conservation

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has called for collaboration among the federal, provincial, and local governments, along with community involvement, for the effective conservation of the Chure region. Speaking at a tree plantation event marking the 10th Chure Conservation Day, PM Dahal highlighted the critical role of Chure conservation in sustaining the livelihoods of the people in the Tarai-Madhesh region.

Robbery at Chitwan Jewelry Shop: 3 kgs of gold and 35 kgs of silver stolen

An unidentified group looted 3 kgs of gold and 35 kgs of silver from a jewelry shop in Chitwan on Saturday night. The incident occurred at Binod Gold and Silver Jewelry Shop located in Kalika Municipality-6, Chitwan, according to the District Police Office. In addition to the precious metals, the robbers also made off with Rs 200,000 in cash.

Nepal gears up for final T20 World Cup match against Bangladesh

Nepal, having been unsuccessful in securing a win in the group stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, is gearing up for its final match of the tournament against Bangladesh. The match is scheduled for Monday early morning at the scenic Arnos Vale Stadium. Bangladesh has played three matches so far, winning two of them, and is currently in second place in Group D.

NEPSE declines by 17 points, transactions worth Rs 5.5 billion

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) saw a decline on Sunday, the first trading day of the month. The stock market index fell by 17.4 points, closing at 2,095, a decrease of 0.80% on Sunday. The Sensitive Index, which tracks trading of ‘A’ category companies, also dropped by 3.25 points. Throughout the day, there were 71,997 transactions involving 317 companies, with a total of 13.22 million shares traded.
