KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) has agreed not to call for the resignation of Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane as a parliamentary probe committee is set to be formed.

Leaders from the Maoist Center and CPN-UML parties have claimed that the committee will be formed following this agreement between the ruling party and the opposition.

The likelihood of a parliamentary probe into the actions of the Home Minister, spurred by Nepali Congress, seems imminent.

Following the address from Home Minister Lamichhane in the Parliament, UML leaders have indicated that the opposition parties, Nepali Congress and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, have also agreed to form a probe committee.

Parliamentarians from the CPN-Maoist Center suggest that a consensus has been reached post-committee formation wherein Nepali Congress will abstain from demanding the Home Minister’s resignation.

A member of parliament from the Maoist Center told Khabarhub, “Once the probe committee is formed, colleagues from the Nepali Congress have assured us they won’t press for resignation.”

The leader further added that discussions are expected to follow speeches by the Home Minister, Nepali Congress, and other leaders before the committee is established.

Meanwhile, UML whip Mahesh Bartaula said that the parliament will reconvene after 4 o’clock.

Nepali Congress Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak also affirmed that resignation demands will cease upon the probe committee’s formation.

He stated, “Our call for resignation is merely a precursor to establishing a probe committee.”
