KATHMANDU: Former Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun’s son, Dipesh Pun, who was arrested on charges of gold smuggling, has been put under investigation for cooperative fraud in Butwal.

He was apprehended in Kathmandu and has been taken to Butwal for investigation on cooperative related frauds.

In July, a total of 61 kilograms of gold was seized from the Tribhuvan International Airport office.

The main suspect in the gold smuggling case, Dawa Chirring, is said to have connections with Dipesh.

Dipesh’s involvement was also mentioned in the report of the investigation commission on gold smuggling.

Cooperative victims had filed cases claiming that Supreme Cooperative Rupandehi operated by Gitenbabu (GB) Rai, misapporpriated their deposits.

Dipesh was also the former treasurer of the Supreme Cooperative.

After it was discovered that funds of savers had been embezzled, the District Court in Rupandehi had issued an arrest warrant against him (Dipesh).

The chairman of the Supreme Cooperative, Om Prakash Gurung, and the manager of the cooperative’s Bhairahawa branch, Durga Chapagain Pandey, have already been arrested.
