Woman nabbed on allegations of fraudulently promising foreign employment in Malta

KATHMANDU: A woman, claiming to facilitate employment opportunities in Malta, has been arrested on charges of deception.

The arrested is identified as Maya Devi Rana, a 30-year-old residing in Palpa, who had recently moved to Kathmandu.

Rana allegedly promised overseas employment, including a lucrative salary, to Dipak Raj Kandel, among others, demanding a sum of NPR 800,000 for the process. She assured Kandel and others of securing jobs in hotels with a monthly salary of NPR 150,000 upon reaching Malta. However, after receiving a total of NPR 4.3 million from various individuals without fulfilling her promises, Rana disappeared.

Following a thorough investigation, a police team deployed from Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Division apprehended Rana in Swayambhu on Sunday.

The police have handed her over to the Department of Foreign Employment for further investigation.
