Nepal begins electricity export to Bangladesh

Nepal has begun exporting electricity to Bangladesh. Under a tripartite agreement signed on October 3, Nepal initiated the export of 40 megawatts of electricity to Bangladesh on Friday.

Chandan Kumar Ghosh, spokesperson for the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), confirmed that with approval from India, the electricity was successfully sent to Bangladesh on Friday.

The electricity export was officially launched during a ceremony organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kathmandu.

Under the agreement, Nepal will export electricity to Bangladesh from June 15 to November 15 each year.

Tensions escalate at Gaushala Chowk amid KMC’s demolition attempt

Tensions flared between the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Police and local residents at Gaushala Chowk following a demolition attempt by KMC authorities.

A team from the KMC Police arrived with a bulldozer to demolish a structure that had encroached onto the footpath at Gaushala Chowk in Kathmandu.

The building, operated by the Marwari Sewa Samiti, sparked a standoff when local residents intervened.

President Paudel arrives home attending COP29 in Baku

President Ram Chandra Paudel arrived home on Friday morning from Baku in Azerbaijan by attending the 29th edition of the Conference of Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

President Paudel had left here for Baku on November 10 to attend the COP29 at the invitation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

Feeling more at ease after stepping down from power: Prachanda

Chairman of the Maoist Center, Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda”, has stated that he feels more at ease after stepping down from power.

Prachanda made this remark during the launch event of a book in Kathmandu on Friday. Addressing rumors that he is troubled or distressed after leaving government, Prachanda firmly denied them.

“Some people say that I am worried and pained after leaving the government. That’s not true. Absolutely not,” he said.

“In fact, I feel more comfortable now than I did when I was the prime minister. I am relaxed, and I’ve returned to the people.”

Eight killed in Darchula jeep accident

Eight passengers died in a jeep accident in Darchula on Friday morning.

The incident occurred when a jeep crashed while returning from a Jatra (festival), according to the District Police Office in Darchula.

Among the deceased, two individuals were Indian nationals.

The accident occurred at Bakjebla in Shailyashikhar Municipality-6, involving Jeep Ma 1 Ja 338, which was traveling from Malikarjun to Gokuleshwar.

The jeep, carrying 13 passengers returning from a night pilgrimage to the Malikarjun temple in Malikarjun Rural Municipality-3, fell approximately 150 meters from the road.

Nepal exports 40 MW electricity to B’desh today

Bangladesh imported 40 megawatts (MW) of electricity from Nepal today.

The electricity was delivered through the Indian transmission line, starting at 12:45 PM on Friday.

Kulman Ghising, Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), said that the Energy Ministers of Nepal, India, and Bangladesh inaugurated the electricity export via a virtual ceremony.

Despite a tripartite agreement signed in Kathmandu on October 3, the export had been delayed due to India’s non-approval.

Ghising stated that Nepal exported 40 megawatts of electricity for one day today.

Gold price sees slight increase after two weeks of decline

The price of gold, which has been on a downward trend for the past five days, saw a slight increase today (Friday).

After dropping by 2,400 rupees to 160,000 rupees on Wednesday, the price of gold rose by Rs 100 today.

According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Traders Federation, gold is being traded at 160,100 rupees per tola today. The price of gold had fallen by 2,200 rupees yesterday.

Rabi Lamichhane transported from Bhairahawa to Pokhara

Rabi Lamichhane, the Chairman of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), who is under investigation for alleged fraud involving the Supreme Savings and Loan Cooperative Society of Butwal, was transported from Bhairahawa to Pokhara today.

Lamichhane’s statement, which had been taken in Bhairahawa after his arrival from Kaski last Tuesday, was concluded late yesterday evening.

Banks reduce interest rates for Mangsir

Commercial banks have reduced deposit interest rates for Nepali month of Mangsir (mid-November and mid-December) this year.

The maximum average interest rate offered for personal term deposits has decreased for the second consecutive month.

In last month, the average interest rate for personal term deposits was 6.18%.

For Mangsir, this has been reduced to 5.96%, marking a decline of 0.22 percentage points.

This follows a reduction of 0.21 percentage points in Nepali month of Kartik compared to Asoj.

Two-party mechanism will facilitate in smooth running of govt: Minister Singh

Minister for Urban Development, Prakash Man Singh, has said that the two-party mechanism formed recently would facilitate in smooth running of the government.

Addressing a program in Biratnagar today, Minister Singh expressed the belief that the mechanism formed by the two big parties will support forging coordination and understanding between them.

Stating that the present government formed on the basis of the seven-point agreement has carried out significant works within short time, he said the government is working as per the people’s aspirations.
