Speaker Ghimire calls meeting to resolve parliament obstruction

KAHTMANDU: Speaker Devraj Ghimire has convened a meeting with the whips of major parties to address the ongoing obstruction in Parliament.

The meeting is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Sunday to discuss resolving the stalemate caused by the main opposition party, Maoist Centre, in the House of Representatives.

Speaker Ghimire has invited the Chief Whips of the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Maoist Centre, Rastriya Swatantra Party, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party for this discussion, according to his private secretariat.

The obstruction stems from a decision made by the Speaker, which involved removing the term “violence” used by CPN-UML MP Yogesh Kumar Bhattarai during the House meeting.

This decision, which was contested by Hitraj Pandey, Chief Whip of Maoist Centre, continues to be a point of contention, leading to ongoing disruptions in Parliament.

The Maoist Centre has previously announced that they will maintain their obstruction until their demands are met.

The House of Representatives is scheduled to convene on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
