Bagmati Chief Minister Jamkattel to seek vote of confidence on July 21

HETAUDA: Bagmati Province Chief Minister Shalikram Jamkattel has decided to seek a vote of confidence on July 21.

Jamkattel decided to seek a vote of confidence instead of resigning after discussions with coalition partners, CPN-Unified Socialist and Hamro Nepali Party.

He submitted a letter to the Provincial Assembly Secretariat, informing them of his intent to seek a vote of confidence on July 21.

Jamkattel is currently in a minority after the CPN-UML withdrew its support on July 8, following a shift in the federal government’s coalition.

Jamkattel was appointed Chief Minister on January 9, 2023, through a coalition of UML, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Unified Socialist, and the CPN-Maoist Center.

Given the new federal coalition, which now includes a clear majority of Nepali Congress and UML members in Bagmati, it is certain that he will not receive the vote of confidence.
