KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayankaji Shrestha has emphasized the longstanding history of mutual friendship and cooperation between Nepal and India.
He emphasized that any existing issues between the two nations must be addressed through dialogue and diplomacy.
Speaking during the third series of lectures initiated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in honor of former ambassador and former foreign secretary Professor Yadunath Khanal in Kathmandu, Shrestha highlighted the deep-rooted ties between Nepal and India, citing cultural affinity and multifaceted connections.
Following a speech by Professor C. Rajamohan, the former director of the South Asian Studies Institute and the keynote speaker of the series focusing on Nepal-India relations, the Foreign Minister underscored the importance of resolving historical issues through dialogue and diplomacy, guided by factual understanding and the spirit of good neighborliness.
He expressed the government’s commitment to elevating Nepal-India relations to new heights through this approach.
Minister Shrestha reiterated that bilateral relations are founded on principles of sovereign equality, peaceful co-existence, goodwill, mutual trust, and understanding.
He emphasized the positive impact of high-level visits in strengthening ties and fostering partnerships across various sectors.
In discussing the establishment of consultation mechanisms to enhance cooperation in diverse fields of bilateral relations, Foreign Minister Shrestha highlighted the potential for mutual cooperation and partnership through such frameworks.
He particularly emphasized the significance of collaboration in the energy sector among various avenues for cooperation beneficial to both nations.
