AIG Shyamlal Gyawali appointed as CIB Chief

KATHMANDU: The government appointed Nepal Police AIG Shyamlal Gyawali as the new head of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB).

The decision to appoint Gyawali as the CIB chief was made upon the recommendation of the Ministry of Home Affairs at a meeting of the cabinet held today.

The current CIB Chief, AIG Kiran Bajracharya, has been transferred to the Nepal Police Headquarters Operations Department amidst controversy surrounding a gold smuggling case.

Minister of Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma said that Bajracharya’s transfer was not punitive or rewarding, but rather a routine administrative action.

“The government’s decision to appoint a new CIB chief aims to facilitate the implementation of the report on gold smuggling,” Minister Sharma said.

“These transfers are part of the government’s regular administrative procedures,” she added.
